Rookies. Or, to some: r00kEEz.
Some love them and others hate them. Well, for those who love them, this is the post for you. YouConn breaks down the upcoming r00kEE (he prefers that spelling) draft. Who is going first overall? That is a no brainer, but after that it depends on the team.
The summer league was not taking into account. After re-thinking things, YouConn decided to throw out his old mock draft and not even bother to look at results (although he cheated and kept some of the picks and words the same). If he was running each franchise, this is what he would do.
Check out his picks (with links!) after the jump.
So, like it was said above, I didn’t really take into account the summer league. At first I did, but eff that. If we created Khalid El-Amin and put him in the file, then he might turn into a late second round pick. With that said, some of the picks stayed the same, but others changed. So, lets do this…
1 – Greg Oden – CLE
Clever was messing with me a few days ago saying he was going to get Yao Ming. I should slap him. And Trev.
2 – Kevin Durant – POR
It’s hard to pass on the ’sure thing’. Does Norman surprise us with Horford? Wouldn’t put it past him.
3 – Al Horford – PHI
Maybe I should use the ’sure thing’ here. Regardless, Bill must be glad he wore his old man diapers last night.
4 – Brandan Wright – CHA
I hate you Jack Li.
5 – Yi Jianlian – BOS
I traded up in hopes of landing Brandan. Why? Mainly because he has braces. So, if Li does go the route of Wright instead of Conley (rumored to be the pick), then I shall take E.
6 – Mike Conley Jr – SAS
Like I’ve said, all of the other teams have a point guard that are above the Spurs. Conley could go as high as 4, but I don’t see him slipping past 6. If he does…
7 – Jeff Green – GSW
…Golden State is praying that Conley gets to 7. He won’t, but hey, people can dream, right? Jeff Green is still the pick here.
8 – Al Thornton – LAL
SJam made me re-think this pick. So, I changed it. I’d also like to point out that Richard Hamilton is still injured with a broken toe. That’s awesome. Thornton can play the 3 for SJam, and he can play it well.
9 – Joakim Noah – PHI
The Boy Wonder (Bill’s new nickname) should take a swing player now. Since I just ruined his dreams of having Thornton, he gets the guy who used to walk around Florida’s campus with a weird robe on.
10 – Sean Williams – SAS
I had a tough time thinking what the Spurs would do. Already with that franchise point guard, I think the opportunity to team up Conley with Noah Williams is something I’d want to do. Noah Williams, Marvin and Conley. Not a terrible future.
11 – Julian Wright – PHI
Bill gets wet to anyone named Wright. And since Brandan was taken, I don’t see how he lets Julian get by him. This means that Bill comes away with Horford, Thornton, and Wright. Amazing frontcourt for the future. I hate him.
12 – Thaddeus Young – PHX
AJ was bitching that there wasn’t going to be a shooting guard when he picks. I should slap him. Nick Young is the sexy pick. But he’s a liability on one end. Sure he can dunk and gets along with Agent Zero in the NBA, but reports are that Thadd ‘gets it’. I wouldn’t pass on him.
13 – Acie Law IV – CLE
It’s been brought to my attention that Clever laughs at Spencer Hawes and his NBA potential. Law is a great guard to have come off your bench.
14 – FORFEIT
15 – Luis Scola – MLW
The deal Pat just made leaves a rather big void in his frontcourt. I’d go Scola, but wouldn’t be surprised if he went out and drafted Hawes.
16 – Javaris Crittenton- GSW
I have the Warriors already taking Green at #7. Corey Brewer was originally slotted here. But, he sort of sucks. Nick Young is still left, but I believe Jay has said he’d take Javaris Crittenton if he was there. So, here he is.
17 – Nick Young – CLE
So Clever gets Oden, Hawes, and Young? GSW should take him just to cockblock him.
18 – Spencer Hawes – LAL
Definition of a project, but there’s no rush for him to play right away with Black Jesus ahead of him.
19 – Rodney Stuckey – SAS
The Spurs already have Noah Williams, Marvin and Conley right now. People love Stuckey and Dave will at some point mention that he too loves Stuckey. Thus, someone will panic and take Stuckey.
20 – Corey Brewer – BOS
Awful summer league (I know I said I wouldn’t take it into consideration, but I know all of you will).
21 – Jamario Moon – SAC
It’s odd that these two teams (MLW and SAC) switched spots and could easily wind up just swapping power forwards (Scola and Moon).
22 – Juan Carlos Navarro – SAS
The Spurs again? In need of a quality big man and just missing out on Scola Moon, I would think they’d take best available. Juan Carlos Navarro is a damn good pick at 22.
23 – Aaron Brooks – SEA
Do it. Do it.
24 – Glen Davis – BOS
Mmmm. When you almost lose (he took him at the end) to Doc Rivers in a foot race, it makes me re-think picking you. But, need some Big Baby in my life.
25 – Carl Landry – CHA
Landry should go because Jack could still use some front court depth.
26 – Aaron Afflalo – DAL
I’m sorry Suggs.
27 – Marco Belinelli – CHI
Morris Almond is more of a project, but Belinelli has had some great games in the summer league. I think with the glaring need of a SG, Belinelli would fit in well with what Chicago is trying to do.
28 – DaeQuan Cook – ORL
Solid shooter, which will only add to this teams strength. You can never have too many of them.
29 – Wilson Chandler – BOS
I have myself taking Brewer and Law IV earlier. Chandler has been a bright spot for the Knicks in the NBA and seems like he’ll be in their future plans. I was hoping he fell to me. He’s not a sexy pick and flies under the radar, but I have high hopes for him.
30 – Morris Almond – BOS
A complete project, but could turn out to be something great. Either that or be out of the league in two years.
Top Second Rounders
Jared Dudley – There’s a chance he goes in the first round and I wouldn’t be shocked. Another one that flies under the radar.
Alando Tucker – He has the college career, but I don’t know what that translates into in the pros.
Rudy Fernandez – First round talent. But, who ever drafts him will have to be patient since he won’t come to the NBA in the 2008-2009 season. So, a c2c translation means like 14 years.
Jason Smith – He sucks, but someone will take him because they’ll see he was drafted in the first round in real life.
Marcus Williams – Another project. Risky pick, but could develop.
Gabe Pruitt – Bill will fight you if you draft him.
Nick Fazekas – Yawn.
Josh McRoberts – J/K
