Trading Places – Melo Heads North

Trading Places is an outsiders view of a trade that drastically changes the landscape of the league. Whether a team trades for an All-Star or unloads their franchise player, Trading Places will analyze the deal(s) for the teams involved and the league as a whole.

The Deal
Carmelo Anthony, Rashad McCants, Rasho Nesterovic, 2nd Round Pick for Kevin Garnett

The Breakdown
After Los Angeles shipped out Iggy, they continue to remodel by adding Garnett. It seems like a lot to give for an aging superstar. But, with everyone seemingly doing a youth movement, Doty doesn’t seem to care. KG will team up with Marion, Bibby, and Aldridge.

As for Toronto, he finally gave up the dream of Duncan and Garnett dominating the league. He was going to have to trade one of them in order to ever make a trade in the league. Now, Duncan has a younger running mate in Melo. They also get McCants who suddenly has some trade value.

Overall, I think this trade works better for Toronto. As much as Melo doesn’t play anything resembling defense, he still can score in bunches and Toronto just desperately needed to make a trade. With New Jersey seemingly running away with the East, Duncan, KG and a bunch of nobodies weren’t going to cut it. Still, with that said, the Clippers still are looking solid and might give New Orleans something to think about (albeit small) when moving forward.
